Joy List

At a recent women's retreat we were encouraged to keep a "joy list." Things that remind us how wonderful the life God has given us is and fight to keep "joy killers" away.

  • Today I haven't been feeling well so I've been taking it easy. While Madeline played I lay on the couch reading. After a while tiredness overtook me and I fell asleep. At some point Madeline climbed on the couch, waking me in the process, and wedged herself in beside me. During her usual exercise of "getting the wiggles out," I fell back asleep. At some point she fell asleep too. Brandon came out later when he realized how quiet it was and took a picture of the two of us. Later, I awoke with a numb arm and a sweet baby with a very sweaty head cuddled up next to me. These are the things that melt my heart. Especially since she is too busy to sleep on mommy like she did when she was tiny. - 4/23/2012
  • In the last day or so Madeline has learned, "What did you do?" Most of the time it come out "Wud id do?" but also clearly with all the words. She says it whenever she drops something. We've used the phrase jokingly with her so I know she's just copying us but it's so cute coming out of her and it makes me smile. - 5/8/2012
  • I asked Madeline for a hug, she walked into my arms, laid her head on my shoulder and said, "Thank you, thank you so much." Pure joy! - 7/3/12
